Trapezoid houses, designed for the container

The trapezoid houses were the second phase of a treehouse resort in the Finger Lakes. The brief: a structure that complements the A-frames but is more efficient than anything delivered before, to meet the project’s budget.

The design started from logistics. Five complete building kits fit in one 40-foot container from Europe. The critical parts were prefabricated (the main frame, the window box-outs, the partition walls) and a few parts were left prepared for cutting on site. The result is a tiny house with a distinctive section and a very efficient package.

Design stretched the dollars. That is the version of value engineering we believe in. Go smaller still and mass timber stops being massive at all.
